Pokemon Legends: Arceus tiene mucho en común con un juego de rol tradicional de Pokémon, y sirve como una reinvención de muchas de las mecánicas principales de la serie clásica. Pero también es un cambio radical en algunos aspectos, por lo que incluso los viejos maestros de Pokémon pueden encontrar que sus habilidades no se traducen inmediatamente a este nuevo formato. Pokemon Legends: Arceus es una precuela del resto de la serie basada en la exploración de vastos espacios abiertos y la captura de monstruos en botes mientras completas la primera Pokedex de la región de Sinnoh. Aquí hay algunas cosas que debes saber antes de comenzar tu aventura.
Pokémon sube de nivel fuera de las batallas
A diferencia de un juego tradicional de Pokémon en el que la batalla es tu principal o único camino para subir de nivel a tus criaturas, Pokémon Legends: Arceus es generoso con la experiencia y la otorga para todo tipo de cosas. Los seis Pokémon de tu grupo obtendrán experiencia pasiva al capturar Pokémon salvajes incluso sin luchar y al cultivar materiales de artesanía. Simplemente explorar el mundo, atrapar Pokémon y golpear árboles para agarrar Apricorns te brindará mucha experiencia sin tener que luchar contra un solo monstruo de bolsillo.
Evoluciona en cualquier momento
En lugar de evolucionar al alcanzar un determinado nivel, tu Pokémon esperará a que inicies la evolución una vez que esté listo. Aparecerá un pequeño indicador cuando alcancen el nivel de experiencia requerido, pero luego tendrás que ir al menú del grupo y seleccionar “Evolucionar”. Esto iniciará la evolución. Tu Pokémon evolucionado tendrá estadísticas base más altas, por lo que golpeará más fuerte y defenderá mejor, y usarlo te ayudará a completar la entrada de Pokedex para la siguiente etapa de la evolución.
No son tus Poke Balls estándar
Las Poke Balls en Pokémon Legends: Arceus son algo diferentes, en parte porque el contexto de atrapar Pokémon es muy diferente. No hay bolas rápidas, por ejemplo, porque dependen de cuándo las lanzas durante la batalla, algo que se ha restado importancia en Arceus. Sin embargo, hay algunas Poke Balls únicas, como aquellas que son especialmente buenas para cubrir largas distancias (Feather Ball) o que son especialmente efectivas para capturar Pokémon si los atrapas por sorpresa (Heavy Ball).
Acércate sigilosamente detrás de Pokémon para tener más posibilidades de capturarlo.
Incluso sin una Poke Ball especial, el sigilo es la mejor herramienta de tu arsenal para capturar un Pokémon. Si te acercas sigilosamente detrás de un Pokémon, aumentarás significativamente tus posibilidades de capturarlo. Esto se llama “golpe de espalda” y esencialmente sirve como un golpe crítico para tus posibilidades de captura. Esté atento a un indicador encima del Pokémon mientras lo apunta para ver si ha notado su presencia. Si se vuelve rojo con el ícono de un ojo, definitivamente te han notado y se han vuelto agresivos, por lo que no responderán a las Poke Balls, por lo que tus únicas opciones son luchar para debilitarlas para atraparlas o huir y luego retroceda. Si logras dar un golpe de espalda con éxito, escucharás un sonido distintivo que es diferente y suena más pesado que un golpe estándar.
Puedes atrapar varios Pokémon en rápida sucesión
Algunos Pokémon en Legends: Arceus se juntan en manadas, pero no tienes que conformarte con solo uno. Si lanzas las Poke Balls lo suficientemente rápido, puedes capturar varios Pokémon seguidos, lo que te ayudará a avanzar hacia tus objetivos de captura de Pokedex. Solo asegúrate de actuar rápido, porque a veces los Pokémon notarán que sus amigos han desaparecido repentinamente y huirán.
Cuidado con los Alphas y las multibatallas
Dado que los Pokémon a veces pasan el rato juntos, eso también significa que podrías quedar atrapado accidentalmente en una batalla múltiple. Esto puede ser complicado porque solo puedes tener un Pokémon para luchar a la vez. Ten cuidado de no sentirte abrumado por demasiados Pokémon salvajes a la vez. De manera similar, dado que los poderosos Pokémon Alfa se delatan por sus ojos rojos y un cambio musical distintivo, tenga cuidado de no intentar capturar uno sin darse cuenta. Te atacará y los Alfa tienden a estar por encima del nivel promedio en un área determinada.

Los juegos de Pokémon más recientes han utilizado alguna versión de un reloj en tiempo real, lo que significa que tendrías que jugar de noche para capturar monstruos que solo salen de noche. Pokemon Legends: Arceus no usa un reloj de tiempo real, por lo que los días pasan en un ciclo regular. Sin embargo, algunos Pokémon todavía están vinculados a la hora del día en el juego, así que esté atento a la puesta de sol para perseguir Pokémon nocturnos. Si quieres avanzar hasta la hora correcta del día, simplemente dirígete al campamento base más cercano y descansa en la tienda hasta la hora que desees.
Apuntar alto
Gran parte de tu exploración implica atrapar Pokémon salvajes y, a veces, la hierba alta está demasiado lejos de los monstruos retozando para mantener tu escondite mientras usas el objetivo automático. Mantener presionados ambos gatillos generalmente alinea un disparo, pero si están fuera de tu alcance, puedes apuntar manualmente un poco alto (generalmente para que la retícula apenas toque al Pokémon) y dará en el blanco sin problemas.
Equipar movimientos
Like a traditional Pokemon game, your monsters will only be able to equip four moves at a time. But unlike a traditional Pokemon game, you can swap learned moves at will. Each monster will only learn four innate moves by default, but then you can visit a Dojo in town to learn more for a small fee. Once you teach your Pokemon extra moves, you can go into the party menu to swap which ones are available for battle. If you decide you want to change back later, you can simply swap again through the party menu without incurring an additional fee.
Mix Agile and Strong with Effectiveness ratings
The battle system in Pokemon Legends: Arceus introduces Agile and Strong moves, modifiers you can apply to moves during battle, but only after you’ve mastered that move. Agile is quicker but weaker, sometimes allowing you to attack twice, while Strong is slower but stronger, which will sometimes open you up to double attacks from your opponent. These work in conjunction with the existing Effectiveness ratings, so you can put an Agile modifier on a Super Effective attack and it will still be very strong against your opponent with the added benefit of being quick. Conversely, you could put a Strong modifier on a less effective attack to help make up the gap. You could also use an Agile move to inflict a status effect and then immediately follow up with a regular or Strong move. Or you can even put a Strong spin on a Super Effective move to punch a bit above your weight class. Experiment with different combinations.
Don’t sweat failing out of Story battles
Failing out of a wild battle will start you at the nearest camp and cost you some of your items and materials, so you should run away whenever those start to look too hairy. Story-based battles, on the other hand, carry no real risk. Failing out will simply start you right before the battle with no penalty and all of your Pokemon restored to full health. You can feel free to jump into a story battle, even if your Pokemon are a little banged up from exploring, just to get an idea of what you’ll be facing. Then you can restart with everyone healed and ready for action.
Revisit areas with new mounts
As you progress through the story, you’ll get access to several Pokemon mounts with unique abilities. Most of these relate to navigation, opening up new areas. Those navigation tools are necessary to proceed to the next story point, but each of the biomes have plenty of areas that will only be reachable later when you get the mounts. Make sure you go back to older areas you’ve already covered and look around for new areas you couldn’t access before, because there will usually be new Pokemon species and new Alphas hiding in these locations.
Farm satchels for Merit Points
When you check your map you’ll see small icons that look like messenger bags dotted around the landscape. These are satchels, bags dropped by other explorers. Fetching the satchel is a simple matter of getting near it and collecting it like any other farmed item, but the payoff is much more significant. Each satchel will get you Merit Points, usually in the 60-70 MP range. Those Merit Points can be traded in town for goods, and that seems to be the only way to get Evo Stones. The MP shop is just off the main village path between the Galaxy Team HQ and the Dojo.
You can buy EXP Candies
The best way to raise your Pokemon’s levels is to simply have them out in the field with you while you complete tasks. But if you’re in a bind and need to quickly raise the level of a particular Pokemon, you can always visit the Candy Stand just outside the Galaxy Team HQ to buy EXP Candies. They can be rather expensive, with a Large EXP Candy coming in at a whopping 18,000g, but it’s nice to have the option regardless.
There is no sprint bar
Sprinting in Pokemon Legends: Arceus works very similarly to The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, with the ability to run in short bursts. But since increasing your stamina isn’t a central mechanic like it is in Zelda, there is no meter that tells you when your stamina is low. From a fully rested state you can sprint for about eight seconds, after which you’ll start to run at a normal rate. If you start to sprint again before giving yourself enough of a rest, you’ll only sprint for a shorter amount of time. Some of your mounts have sprints, but they’re mapped to a face button instead of the L-stick.
Watch for fall damage
High cliffs in Pokemon Legends: Arceus mean high potential for fall damage, and if you take a spill from too high up you’ll just black out and go back to a camp, the same as if you’d fallen from a rampaging Pokemon. Be careful not to push your luck. Your mounts are vulnerable to fall damage too. And if you’re using Braviary, remember that you’ll take fall damage if you just toggle it away, so either toggle it back on just before hitting the ground or use the Dive function to land safely.
